Work Slowly, Strive for Perfection

I made this piece for our show coming up at TrickGo on Friday September 17th at 6:00! Free Beer, Free Friends, and Free Awesome!!!! We are printing some super sick and super limited collab tee’s with TrickGo and we will have some new posters for sale as well.
I made a book in typography class about baskerville and, while doing so, I came across a bunch of Ben Franklin quotes and this one really stood out to me. “Work Slowly, Strive For Perfection.” It can’t be put more simply than that. We all need to take our time and push ourselves to be the best, especially when it comes down to crunch time and you’re running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off. Take a second and breathe, look at what you’re doing, is it your best? Probably not? Just relax, the world isn’t going to end because of a picture on a computer screen. I know that this is easier said than done when you have teachers/clients/critics breathing down your neck every second of every day, but if you just say that you need time I’m sure they will understand and back off a bit. You don’t want to run yourself dry and if your stuff looks like shit then it makes you look bad.
Basically, I wanted to revamp what I had done in the past, I originally started out with the picture of the bridge in the background and I was going for a hard edged geometric bauhaus look and then I started tinkering with some glyphs and some bold italic baskerville and a few minutes later realized that I was headed in a completely different direction and I didn’t mind it.
Most importantly, this poster is all about the message, sometimes we just need a little reminder to relax and breathe, I know I do.

[...] 1,000 bad ideas and scribbles I decided to go with something I knew from a previous project about Baskerville. It’s one of the only old(transitional) style serifs that I love, the others just kinda fall [...]
